So now I have to go around this in some way. To do this I use ssh over port 443 to a old pc (Pentium 90MHz, 24MB ram) at home running Linux (Windows can work as well).
You find an excellent tutorial how to do it at http://www.buzzsurf.com/surfatwork/
In short it works like this:
In you browser at work (Firefox of course) connects to a ssh client (Putty) that handles to ssh tunneling to your ssh server at home. The ssh server gateways your traffic to gmail etc.
I used a ssh server on the Linux machine, I just change its configuration so it also listen to port 443.
ssh server on Windows missing dll cygintl-2.dll
In the tutorial they describe how to run a ssh server on Windows, I tried that, got connected but then the server complains about a missing dll cygintl-2.dll.
I didn't find any good description how to fix this problem so I'll put it here.
Steps to retrieve cygintl-2.dll:
- goto the home of cygwin http://www.cygwin.com
- Download setup.exe from here.
- Run setup.exe, select 'Download without installing'
- Select a download directory, and just download all (14MB)
- Open your download directory and select folder
\release\gettext\libintl2 - They you will find a file named libintl2-0.12.1-3.tar.bz2
- This is a compressed file so you need to extract the dll using 7-zip or similar tool.
- extract cygintl-2.dll to the /bin folder where you installed openssh server.
- Remove the downloaded cygwin files if you not going to explore it further.
- Start or restart your ssh server.
- Done!
